Coppice Close

I carved this sculpture to represent many things from the area. The name Coppice Close suggests there were coppicing techniques being used locally to manage woodland nearby. In fact that was true as there was a low grade coal mine and coppicing of hazel trees both of which were used in the early steel industry close to the site.

The shapes within the sculpture suggest the coppicing stool shape (the name given to the tree stumps after they are coppiced).
