The Alhambra Cat

3m tall cat sculpture to commemorate the Alhambra Theatre in Barnsley.

The sculpture refers to the theatre cats of old who prowled the stage and audience in search of food and the inevitable rodents!

Poem carved into back written by Emma E. Taylor with pupils from Piper’s Grove Primary school. The poem tells a tale about a theatre cat who’s attitude to life is very different when the curtain rises.

The theme also reflects on the cat and mouse game the theatre had with the demolishers who finally came in for the kill in 1982.
